JCC Global stands in solidarity with Hebraica Caracas and the people of Venezuela

Dear friends,

In the wake of the devastating earthquake that has struck Caracas, Venezuela, we are moved to share that the local Hebraica JCC has immediately stepped forward as an emergency response center, opening its doors to hundreds of people in urgent need.

True to the enduring mission of Jewish Community Centers worldwide, the Hebraica team has mobilized swiftly - providing shelter, medical assistance, food, accommodation and basic necessities to community members and neighbors affected by the disaster.

We are relieved to report that, so far, no lives have been lost. Several community members were injured, and the Hebraica team is continuing its efforts to reach everyone and ensure that all community members are safe and accounted for.

JCC Global stands in full solidarity with our partners. We send our support, strength, and prayers for Refua Shlema to the entire Hebraica Caracas community, and especially to its President, David Mishkin, and CEO, Ezra Kaim. We will continue to stand by them and support their critical work in the days ahead.

More about Hebraica, Caracas:

Hebraica JCC in Caracas has long been a beacon of Jewish communal life in Venezuela - a true campus community housing schools from preschool through high school, sports, culture, youth movements, and programming for all ages.

For many years it was led by JCC Global’s Board Member Anabella Jaroslavsky and dedicated lay and professional leaders.

Hebraica has served as far more than a building: it is a safe haven and second home for the vast majority of the currently 5000 Jews in Venezuela, especially as the country has faced decades of deepening economic crisis, social instability, and a steadily shrinking Jewish community.

We hold Hebraica and the entire Venezuelan Jewish community in our hearts, with deep hope for their swift recovery and healing.
