Standing with Colombia

On August 10, a powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck Colombia, causing widespread damage and a growing loss of life. The impact has been particularly severe in the western and southern parts of the country. As rescue and recovery efforts continue, at least 132 people have been reported dead, and many more have been injured or remain missing.
According to updates we have received directly from Bela Himelfarb, the Director of Macabi Colombia, the damage has been significantly greater in the south than in the central region, where Bogotá is located. In Cali, the second largest city, several Jewish community institutions have sustained damage, especially the synagogue. Fortunately, at this time, we have received no reports of serious injuries or critical situations among members of the Jewish community.
In response to the emergency, a fundraising campaign is being launched through CADENA to provide aid and support to those affected. The funds will support relief efforts in the southern part of the country, as well as anyone in the Bogotá area who may require assistance.
