"JCC Global-From Good to Great"
Partnership 7: Odessa, Baltimore, Ashkelon

Partners:

  • Migdal JCC, Odessa, Ukraine

  • Baltimore JCC, Baltimore, MD, USA

  • Ashkelon Network of Community Centers, Ashkelon, Israel

Project “JCC Global - Yummy”:

Families from each community participate in joint Zoom sessions focused on culinary traditions within the Jewish world. The project began in Fall 2025 and will conclude in Summer 2026 with the creation of a joint cookbook featuring recipes from all participating communities.

Mentoring:

Mentoring sessions have focused on resilience and community building. Ashkelon led peer learning on emergency preparedness, while Baltimore facilitated discussions on volunteering and hosted a lecture for its partner community at Migdal JCC in Odesa, led by an expert on Baltimore’s Jewish history, who also has personal roots in Odesa. The session explored the migration of Jews to the United States, their early livelihoods, patterns of community life, and the process of integration into American society. Beyond learning together, this encounter also laid the foundation for a new joint initiative now in development — another example of mentoring evolving into partnership.

In addition, as part of the wider From Good to Great program, a team from Kharkiv visited Odessa to support Migdal JCC in strengthening its marketing strategies, extending the partnership’s impact beyond the kitchen.
