JCC Global Hub: Building Bridges of Social Responsibility:

Empowering JCC Leaders who provide support for refugees from Ukraine

What?

The “Dr. Mark Ramer JCC Global Hubs” are cohort-based online courses for human resource development and capacity building. The Hubs provide a platform for ongoing training, collaborative learning, sharing best practices, problem-solving, intellectual enrichment, and inspiration. Each Hub is a series of 6 webinars, each one 1.5 hours long, for and with Jewish Community Centers (JCC) leaders from around the globe.

The course is open for JCC professionals and lay leaders working with refugees from Ukraine. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from each other's diverse experiences and needs, fostering a collaborative environment for sharing best practices and innovative approaches. The course will address the psychological aspects of caregiving, the importance of self-care and preventing burnout, fundraising strategies for social responsibility, and fostering short and long-term cooperation among the JCCs.

 

When?

A series of 6 bi-weekly webinars, each one 1.5 hours long. And the last one, a week apart before end of year.

Mondays at 18:00 p.m. Israel time.

Dates: October 16, October 30, November 13, November 27, December 11- Hanukkah, December 18

 

Language: English, simultaneous translation upon request (for a minimum of 3 people)

 

Target Audience: JCC Executive Directors, JCC professionals and lay leaders who work with refugees from Ukraine

Outline of the sessions:

Session 1: Understanding the Refugee Crisis and Jewish Social Responsibility 

  • Introduction to the global refugee crisis and its impact on European countries

  • Exploring Jewish values and traditions related to social responsibility and welcoming strangers

  • Historical perspectives: Jewish experiences as refugees and displaced persons

Session 2:  Cultural Competence and Interpersonal Skills

  • Developing cultural sensitivity and awareness of diverse refugee populations

  • Effective communication strategies when working with refugees

  • Building trust and fostering inclusion within Jewish Community Centers
     

Session 3: Providing Comprehensive Refugee Support Services

  • Assessing the needs and vulnerabilities of refugees in Eastern European countries

  • Legal frameworks and rights of refugees: understanding the regional context

  • Practical guidance on healthcare, education, and social services for refugees

Session 4: Psychological Aspects of Caregiving and Self-Care

  • Understanding the impact of caregiving on mental health and well-being

  • Recognizing burnout and implementing self-care strategies

  • Creating a supportive environment for caregivers within JCCs

 

Session 5: Fundraising for Social Responsibility

  • Leading organizations and networks involved in refugee support

  • Fundraising strategies, including grant writing and partnership development

  • Balancing commitments and adapting to uncertain outcomes in fundraising efforts

 

Session 6: Cooperation between JCCs: Short and Long Term

  • Identifying opportunities for collaboration among JCCs

  • Sharing successful models of cooperation and exchange

  • Building networks and fostering long-term partnerships for mutual support

  • Leveraging collaboration between JCCs for project scalability and sustainability
