One year ago, Russia brutally invaded Ukraine. We, the Jewish Community Centre of Krakow and the Edith and Carl Marks Jewish Community House of Bensonhurst, are two institutions separated by thousands of miles yet brought together by a shared system of Jewish and universal values. We believe that Ukraine must remain free and Ukrainian refugees must be supported wherever they are; we pledge to continue our efforts to help Ukraine until her victory over Russia. The quote by Emma Lazarus rings truer than ever for Ukraine: “Until we are all free, we are none of us free.”

Over the last year our centers have been transformed into humanitarian aid hubs, providing a full range of services to Ukrainian refugees, Jewish and non-Jewish, and thanks to the generosity of our supporters, have been able to help hundreds of thousands of people. We provide a safety net for those without a home, a warm embrace of community to all, and hope for the future.

But the war continues and so does our mission. Guided by the Jewish idea of Tikkun Olam, and mindful of our People's difficult history and frequent periods of upheaval, we call on our fellow Jewish institutions as well as our partners across the world to join us by signing this pledge and letting Ukraine and her citizens under attack know that we will continue supporting them in any way that we can for as long as we can.

Marks JCH of Bensonhurst has been instrumental in providing comprehensive resettlement services to more than 5,000 Ukrainian refugees in New York, as well as providing humanitarian aid to communities in Ukraine all throughout the war. Of the millions of Ukrainians displaced by the war nearly 20,000 have resettled in New York City. Our Ukraine Crisis Response Center offers: Case Management / Humanitarian Assistance; Legal Support & Work Authorization Assistance; Psychological Support; Childcare; English for Speakers of Other Languages; Vocational Trainings and Employment Services.

JCC Krakow is a key provider of services, a strategic partner, and a convener, having directly helped and supported over one hundred ninety thousand Ukrainians over the last year. We are operating in Krakow and inside Ukraine and do not differentiate between Jews and non-Jews when providing support. Over 98% of Ukrainians who have received support from JCC Krakow are non-Jews. We have provided over 10 million dollars worth of direct support to Ukraine so far.
